Framing Principles

The tip sheets below provide suggestions from workshops developed for Let’s Talk Money’s cohorts of institutions. Topics address key LTM concepts such as collaboration, communication, and fairness.

  • 5 Must-Ask Questions - This series of questions can prepare you to learn more about your institution’s compensation system and illuminate potential areas for improvement.

  • Total Compensation - Understand the collective mix of salary, other pay, benefits, and non-pay considerations for faculty in higher ed.

  • Principles of Organizational Fairness in Pay Processes - With four components – distributive, procedural, interpersonal, and informational – organizational fairness provides a framework for examining institutional processes, including those that relate to pay.

  • Fairness Traps & Checks - Fairness traps represent opportunities to fortify fairness by identifying guiding principles, raising awareness about assumptions being made, and inserting fairness checks into the process.

Accessibility Resources

  • Video Conferencing with Mixed Hearing-Status Participants - Communication is essential to teamwork and requires attention to be successful. By incorporating approaches that meet the needs of your deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) colleagues, you can improve access to communication for all.

  • Communicating with People Who are Deaf and Hard of Hearing - People who are deaf or hard of hearing use many methods to communicate. These guidelines for effective communication can help to ensure that activities and events are inclusive and universally designed for maximum participation [Created as part of the NSF AdvanceRIT institutional transformation project.]
